Georgetown: The Ministry of Agriculture has been engaging rice farmers and millers across the rice growing regions, over the past weeks with the aim of facilitating payments to farmers who were owed in excess of 300M in payment for rice during the last crop.
According to Minister of Agriculture, Leslie Ramsammy, such a process has been satisfactory and will commence on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Guyana Rice Development Board is working with millers to commence payment.
“It is the hope of the Ministry of Agriculture that by next week all farmers owed monies will be paid in full. This Ministry of Agriculture would like to thank all millers who have complied with heeding of the Ministry’s request to pay farmers.”
