Agreement signed for Visa-free travel to Russia

visaGeorgetown: Guyanese can now enjoy a visa free visit to Russia after Foreign Affairs Minister Carl Greendige and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov signed an agreement to facilitate travel for citizens between the two countries.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the United Nations’ 70th General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York. This new agreement will now afford citizens from these two countries the opportunity to travel without a visa for a maximum stay of six months.

Minister Greenidge said it was a process that was aimed at encouraging movement between the two countries. This new development will also see a major boost for the local tourism and business industries as it affords citizens the opportunity to travel between the two countries without a visa and stay for a maximum of six months.

In addition, the Minister said he views this move as one that will also remove a major barrier and one that will enhance business relations between the two countries.

Guyana already has a long list of countries where its citizens can travel without visas.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Guyanese do not require visas for entry into Antigua and Barbuda; Argentina; Aruba; The Bahamas; Bangladesh; Barbados;  Montserrat; Panama; Peru; South Africa; St Kitts & Nevis; St Lucia; St Vincent & The Grenadines; Suriname; Trinidad and Tobago and several other countries.
