Port-of-Spain: Within the next two weeks, the government will distribute 600 plots of land to former workers of the Caroni sugar-cane industry, Food Production Minister Vasant Bharath said.
The minister says the plots are ready but Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has requested that she be present for the distribution ceremony. The prime minister is currently in Washington for a series of meetings with officials from the Organisation of American States. She will return on Thursday.
Minister Bharath says the distribution will take place when she returns. He told the media that the plots are on 10 sites across the country.
