Georgetown: Fifty- seven (57) new Guyana Police Force (GPF) recruits passed out recently as part of strengthening the force’s capacity. The new recruits from across Guyana had their passing out parade before Assistant Commissioner and Head of the Presidential Guard, Brian Joseph at the Felix Austin Police College compound. Joseph in his charge to the new recruits told them that, as police men and women they are the guardians of public safety, and implored them to keep justice in the forefront of their work.
“Be just; be fair and open-minded. Be even handed and professional and not judgemental in your dealings with everyone; your job is not to judge or convict, be just,” the Assistant Commissioner charged. Joseph also encouraged the new recruits to be trustworthy and encouraged them to work towards restoring “our police service to the glory days”. This is the fourth batch of new recruits passed out by the GPF this year. The force has 200 recruits in training as part of strengthening its capacity. Last year it was announced that the force was short by 1500 ranks. It has since been able to reduce that figure with a 700 intake.
