50th Independence anniversary… NY woman posing as committee member

GOLDENGuyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration Committee in New York is warning persons there to be aware of an imposter who is going around “conducting business” on behalf of the Committee.
In a statement Saturday, General Counsel to the Committee Rovin Rozario disclosed that the individual goes by the name of Kamla Asha Balbachan. He further stated that Balbachan has allegedly been holding herself out to be a member of the committee.
Rozario added that the woman is reportedly acting on behalf of the committee and has also allegedly pursued certain actions that can potentially subject the Committee to liabilities.
“I wish to state categorically that Kamla Asha Balbachan is not a member of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration Committee (New York). She is not authorized to conduct any business on behalf of, nor is in way associated with, this Committee. The Committee therefore dissociates itself from this individual and any purported action by her on its behalf,” he said in the statement.
Rozario noted that he has dispatched a legal notice to Kamla Asha Balbachan directing her to cease and desist from allegedly acting on behalf of the committee or holding herself out as a member of the committee.
Moreover, he pointed out that the Committee will aggressively pursue any individual or group that purports to use the Committee’s name and/or intellectual property for their own private use, benefit or profit.
The public is advised that the Director of Communications should be contact for the committee or for verification of Committee members, who are also listed on our website www.celebrateguyana50thinnyc.com
On Saturday last the Committee launched the New York celebration, setting the tone for a spectacular Golden Jubilee Independence celebration from June 4 to 12, 2016 in New York City. That celebration is expected to be the biggest outside of Guyana.
Among the events planned for the June 4 to 12 celebration are: an Interfaith Prayer Service, Unity Concert, Symposium, Art Exhibition, Day of Volunteerism, Investment Conference, UN Reception, Flag Raising Ceremony, Cultural Extravaganza, President’s Soccer Tournament and Youth Fun Day, State Dinner and a grand finale Mashramani (Carnival) and parade at which President David Granger has been invited to address the Guyanese-American community.
