Georgetown: The 20414 Budget has increased the old age pension by 5%. There are over 42, 000 pensioners. They will get assistance to pay GPL in amount of $30, 000 annually. This was disclosed today by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh during the 2014 Budget Presentation.
For 2013, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security recorded 40,656 pensioners receiving their old age pension which was increased to $12,500 per month, according to Jennifer Webster, Minister of Human Services
In Guyana, old age pensions are paid from age 65 (this despite the retirement age for public workers being 55).
