Berbice : At about 6:30pm the driver of motor car PPP 5482, who was later found to be above the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol, struck down pedal cyclist Delroy Parks, 28 years, of Cromarty, Corentyne, Berbice, on the Public Road at Maida, Corentyne. Parks was treated at the Port Mourant Hospital and sent away.
The driver drove away from the scene and a few minutes later struck down Tabithia Bagot, 19 years; her sister Malkia Bagot, 16 years; and neice Shermaine Cort, 3 years; all of Phillipi, Corentyne, as they were walking along the Phillipi Public Road. The three victims all succumbed to their injuries received.
The driver of the motor car drove away from that scene as well and later struck down Matthew Mc Bean, 19 years, of No. 35 Village, Corentyne, while he was cycling along the Public Road at No. 35 Village. He has been admitted in a serious condition to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Public spirited persons who were pursuing the motor vehicle managed to apprehend the driver and hand him over to the police.
He is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
