Essequibo: The April 2076 Assizes of the Suddie High Court in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) opened Tuesday with the usual impressive parade of Police Officers from ‘G’ Division (Essequibo Coast). The parade consisted of a 24 member contingent, who all marched with much optimism. The salute was taken by Justice Rishi Persaud who will be presiding over the Criminal Assizes of the Suddie High Court. The parade was escorted by G Division Commander Stephen Mansell. During the parade, the ranks, who were decked out in their uniforms, wowed the crowd. Thirty-seven cases are expected to be tried before the judge and the jury panel during Assizes, with persons to be tried for 14 murders, two case of causing grievous bodily harm, one attempt to commit murder, eight cases of rape of a child under 16 years of age, six rape cases, three manslaughter cases and four sexual activity with family members’ cases. Jurors were selected from various villages throughout the coast.
