27 bands, 5 party trucks registered for Mashramani parade

MashGeorgetown: Preparations are in full swing as the various entities and organisations are making the final touches to complete their colourful and striking costumes and floats.

 Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony visited several of the Mash camps around the city and expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the grand costume and float parade on February 23.

“The costumes are very innovative; they have chosen a theme and they have tried to use it to inspire their creativity in their costumes, and I think we will see a lot of colours and creativity on Mash day”.

The Minister said that approximately 27 bands have registered to enter the parade, as well as five party trucks which will traverse the route on Mash day.

The parade will commence from the Parade Ground, navigate the streets of Georgetown and conclude at the National Park where the participants will be judged on creativity and performance.

At the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s Mash camp at the Burrowes School of Art  preparations were heating up today. As usual, the band will be coming 300 strong in the large band category with the theme “Celebrating in Harmony” which will be depicting the dominant colours from the National Flag and the meaning of its colours as to what Guyana has achieved over the 45 years of Republican Status.

Coming 50 strong in the small band category under the theme “Education in light of cultural unity” is the Ministry of Education.

Region Four district was also working to add the final touches on their costume as they seek to portray the infrastructure of the region which plays an important part in its development. Coming in the medium band category, the band will see over 100 revellers parading under the theme “Region Four, Striving for more”.

A new Mash band will be participating this year, launched by costume designer Maxi Williams. The band will be portraying the theme “Asian People”, coming 60 strong in the Medium band category.

Meanwhile, with the aim of expounding on the importance of water in people’s everyday life, the Ministry of Housing and Water is on full swing with the preparations for their band under the theme “Let’s protect and conserve water for Mash 2015”. The band will be coming out 50 strong in the small band category.

The Ministry of Heath with their theme “Heath Warriors”, will be depicting revellers decked in their costumes as the animal Jaguar which is a strong animal to fight off diseases.

The Minister made calls for Guyanese to come out and celebrate all that Guyana has achieved over the 45 years of Republican Status.
