Georgetown: Kurt Brown, 41, and Rushell Gordon, 34, both of Lot 45 Norton Street Lodge, appeared before Chief Magistrate e Priya Sewnarine Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Tuesday to answer charges of possession of 158 pounds of marijuana for trafficking.
Both defendants were remanded to prison until May 2, 2013.
The allegation is that on Saturday March 9, 2013 they were in possession of 158 pounds of marijuana intended to be trafficked.
Both accused pleaded not guilty to the charges although their respective lawyers asked that their clients be placed on bail.
The Prosecutor stated that on Saturday last police were conducting a raid in Norton Street Lodge, when they received certain information that led them to the defendant’s premises. A search was carried on the defendant and cannabis was discovered stashed in the trunks of two unregistered vehicles.
The defendants were taken into custody following the seizure. The drug was later weighed in their presence and it amounted 158 pounds of marijuana. The street value for the drug is reported to be GYD$13M.
