13,721 students enlisted to sit the CSEC

examsGeorgetown: Thirteen thousand, seven hundred and twenty-one (13,721) students have been enlisted to sit the CSEC examinations this year. Twelve thousand, three hundred and sixty-six (12,366) candidates are expected to write Mathematics and eleven thousand, four hundred and eighty-four (11, 484) are expected to sit English. 

 The following is a breakdown of the highest number of subject entries:  

20 subjects – 1 candidate

19 subjects- 2 candidates

18 subjects—4 candidates

17 subjects—16 candidates

16 subjects—18 candidates

7-8 subjects—2,500 school candidates

 CSEC subjects are examined for certification at the General and Technical Proficiencies, which provide students with the foundation for further studies and entry to the workplace. 

 CSEC uses a six-point-grading scheme, which is used to report on the performance of the candidate under six overall and profile grades as follows:

·         Overall grades      –           I, II, III, IV, V, VI

·         Profile grades       –           A, B, C, D, E, F

                Meanwhile, the Ministry has recorded that seven hundred and ninety-five (795) candidates have enlisted to sit the Advanced Proficiency Exams this year. The highest subject entries are Caribbean Studies with a total of 365 entries and Communication Studies with 400 entries.

             The Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) is designed to provide certification of the academic, vocational and technical achievement of students in the Caribbean who, having completed a minimum of five years of secondary education, wish to further their studies. 

 The sitting of the two Regional exams commenced on May 5, 2014. CSEC and CAPE are expected to conclude on June 13, 2014.
