Over 5000 Guyanese registered during reopening of claims, objections period

Georgetown : Since the reopening of the Claims and Objection exercise, a decision taken by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), to facilitate persons who were without their source document, there has been a ‘hassle free’ conduct of the exercise, in accordance with the commission’s rules and regulations. 

Head of Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger said that while Cabinet has been reviewing the ongoing exercise of preparation for the hosting of the 2011 regional and general elections, approximately 5000 more eligible Guyanese have since been registered, a move which is highly lauded by Government. 
“Cabinet welcomed that development which has paved the way for eligible Guyanese in their numbers to be enfranchised.” Luncheon said

The re-opening of the exercise which commenced on July 25 will run for 13 days, to give persons who are now in possession of their source documents the opportunity to register.
