Bridgetown.
The management of the telecommunication company LIME say it has not reneged on its commitment to honour a agreement with the Barbados Workers Union (BWU).
LIME workers have taken strike action claiming that Lime had reneged on promises made in an agreement made between the management of the the company and the BWU, in the presence of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
LIME's Country Manager in Barbados Alex McDonald last night said the issue stems from a genuine difference in the interpretation of two crucial elements of Stuart's letter to LIME and the BWU dated April12, addressing the terms of the settlement.
According to McDonald the letter indicated that the two parties had reached an wages agreement for a four year period from April 1, 2009, to March 30, 2013 on the basis of a 12 percent increase over the four years, representing a three percent increase in each of those year. A flexi work week and retail commissions subject to the mechanics of those conditions.
"It is the company's understanding based on that meeting and the subsequent correspondence for wages was contingent on these two terms,"McDonald said.
LIME has written to the Prime Minister to clarifty the apparent difference in interpretation of the agreement.
