Georgetown: Ambassador Robert Kopecký and Acting British High Commissioner Mr Ron Rimmer met with Carl Greenidge, Second Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, at Takuba Lodge recently. They debriefed Minister Greenidge on the outcome of the E3/EU+3 negotiations with Iran and the resulting Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Following several months of intensive work, on 14 July 2015, Ms Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security policy and the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr Javad Zarif, together with the Foreign Ministers of the People´s Republic of China, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States of America agreed to the text of the JCPOA. This agreement successfully resolves a dispute that has lasted more than 10 years, and ensures that Iran’s nuclear programme will be exclusively peaceful. Iran reaffirmed that under no circumstances will it ever seek, develop or acquire any nuclear weapons. The agreement enables the lifting of all nuclear-related EU, UN and US sanctions on Iran over a phased period.
