The People’s National Movement is scheduled to host it’s General Council meeting today. At the meeting it is expected that Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley will announce the date for the party’s Special Convention. The posts of Deputy Political Leader and other members of the party’s executive are still to be filled. Rowley took over as the PNM’s political leader following the party’s defeat at the May 24 general election. Today’s meeting is at 5.30.

Trinidad and Tobago has claimed another medal at the Commonwealth games. Shooter Roger Daniel claimed silver in the 25m standing pistol event. This is Daniel’s second medal for the tournament after claiming bronze in shooting with partner Rhodney Allen earlier in the competition

New Amsterdam-Berbice B’ Division Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Steve Marai this morning visited the robbery victims at lot 21 St. Magdolene Street New Amsterdam after armed bandits assaulted a family and carted off with $750,000 GC and $800.00 US currency  and  a quantity of gold jewellery.Marai said his ranks will go the extra mile to make sure that his division is under control and not taken over by destructive elements.Berbice division recently received an armored vehicle to assist in reducing crime in that area.

A parliamentarian since 1985, Winston Murray will be contesting  the PNC presidential candidacy, joining the race with retired Brigadier David Granger and PNC Vice Chairman Basil Williams. Based on reports Murray is the most suitable candidate to lead the party to an election that is expected to be quite interesting, the outcome which is touted to be full of surprises. Winston Murray has a long illustrious career in politics and served in many key Government positions including performing the functions as President  twice when the Pnc was in power.  

The Police assisted by Community Policing Group members continue to search for wanted men, who are yet to turn themselves in after bulletins were issued for them. Late this evening the Police set up road blocks along the upper East Coast from Success to Happy Acres. Similar searches are carried out in other areas around the country, particularly in Georgetown. Police believe that gang wars are responsible for the recent executions of  9 persons. In the wake of the attacks, wanted bulletins were posted for almost 15 men.

The owner of a spanking new customized Hilux Vigo worth around 23,000 US dollars is probably kicking himself, adding to the injuries he sustained after smashing into the back of a route 44 minibus today at the head of Sheriff st. by a stop light. The entire front of the Vigo was smashed beyond repair. The driver and a few others in the minibus suffered minor injuries. According to reports the minibus halted after the light quickly changed to red, while the driver of the Vigo who was going too fast slammed head on into the minibus.
