Judicial Review Bill to improve process of democracy – National Assembly
Citizens can now demand transparency and accountability from the Government and Public Offices by seeking redress in the courts. This is the main tenant of the bill and its 23 clauses which primarily allow “ an application to the court for relief against an administrative act or omission”.
New Members sworn in on Public Service Commission
President Bharrat Jagdeo,this afternoon sworn in six new members on the Public Service Commission at the office of the President. The new members are Cecil Sewpersaud, Vera Naughton, Ganga Persaud, Vedyamattie Looknauth and Carvil Duncan.
NIS ending supply of medication to Pensioners – PNC/R
The main opposition today highlighted that the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is now insisting for pensioners to obtain a prescription from their doctors, purchase their medications from their own resources then submit a claim along with the receipt, and then await NIS approval for a refund.
More sensitive attention must be paid to the problems faced by teachers – PNC/R.
More than a year ago the untrained teachers, who operate within the school system, were issued with letters which made it clear that if they did not upgrade their status and become ‘trained teachers’ by a particular time, they would be asked to leave the system.

The Board of Industrial Training (B.I.T), a subvention agency of the Ministry of Labour will be coordinating the Government of Guyana (GOG)/United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) /East Bank of Demerara Training Programme.
The programme involves the training of young people in a number of areas, including Office Administration, Mechanic, Electrical Installation, Cosmetology and Catering.
