There are calls this evening for the mentally insane to be removed from the city streets and be placed into a holding facility where they can be treated. Citizens on Wednesday reacted strongly to the brutal cutlass attack by a mentally challenged man which left two dead and two others injured. According to a prominent Guyanese psychologist, people with mental problems often assume a double personality, it’s almost like they become unaware of whatever is going on around them, even if they themselves are committing an act.

Embattled Tv Talk show host Cn Sharma was forced to leave Canada while under medical observation at a private institution. He is on his way back to Guyana to meet the November 10 court date. His sudden move is as a result of statements made by President Bharrat Jagdeo suggesting that he is deliberately staying away from prosecution. Jagdeo said that from what he has gathered, the Police have a full proof case against Chandra Narine Sharma and that the Director of Public Prosecution should pursue a course of action to have him returned to the country to face prosecution.

 Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission Dr. Steve Surujblly is calling on Guyanese to collect their new identification cards. Surujballi explains that January 2011 the old ID cards will be descended by GECOM, a constitutional move.

He also pointed out that the new cards are the only form of identification that will be accepted for the 2011 general elections.
GECOM has over 60,000 ID cards in their possession that persons have not collected, however there will be some 120 persons in mobile across the country to distribute ID cards.
 

The murder of former Guyana Power and Light security head Clifford Peters may be solved soon. Police have what they suspect is the gunman who shot Peters dead on May 4 last year. The alleged killer, according to police sources will be interrogated and forensic examinations carried out on him, before he is charged and placed before the court. While not saying much about the suspect, police are sure they have the right man in custody based on description and months of investigation into Peters killing.
