Ruimveldt, Georgetown: Persons who are squatting at Countainer city in East and West Ruimveldt, Georgetown will be relocated by the Ministry of Housing. Subject Minister Irfan Ally told the squatting residents that their area cannot be regularized since it is Government reserve and committees will be established to determine relocation time and areas. Some of the squatters voicing their concerns said they received house lots but were unable to pay the Ministry.

Several victims of illegal wiretapping by the State have signalled their intention to seek legal recourse. Letters were yesterday forwarded to Attorney General, Anand Ramlogan, and National Security Minister, Brigadier John Sandy, by attorney Om Lalla. Lalla, who is representing talk show host Ian Alleyne, wrote yesterday seeking full disclosure from the State on the information they received on his client.

 A London oil company, Tullow Oil met with President Bharrat Jagdeo last evening and finalized arrangements to commence drilling for oil in Guyana. According to information out of Office of the President, the process is expected to start in April next year.

Attorney at Law and PNC/R Parliamentarian Winston Murray may be taken off of life support soon. A decision his wife is unable to make at this time. According to reports she is waiting on the rest of the family to fly in from abroad before a decision can be made. Murray remains brain dead at the Intensive Care at the Georgetown Hospital with no hope of pulling through. His wife told reporters that after he collapsed Thursday last and a CT scan was done, doctors also discovered a clot in the brain. She believes that  this may have resulted in his collapse.

At the wreath-laying ceremony for the fallen heroes of the two World Wars, at the Cenotaph, Main Street , Georgetown , the President said that the world is forever indebted to them for their “supreme sacrifice in the cause of freedom and peace.” He said too that the occasion should also be used to recall similar sacrifices made by those who have continually struggled for human dignity, social justice and freedom from oppression, over the years.

An Arrest Warrant for Mark Benschop has been issued by the court on November 03, 2010, after he failed to attend Georgetown Magistrate Court 7 on that day.

Mark Benschop has been charged with driving motor pick-up GLL 3101 in respect of which a licence under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act was not in force at the time.

New Amsterdam, Berbice
Two men are in police custody and will be appearing in court tomorrow for attempting to rob a female employee of a business entity while she was on her way to transact business at a commercial bank at Stand, New Amsterdam, Berbice this morning.
The woman raised an alarm and public spirited persons responded. They pursued and caught the two men who were handed over to the police.
