East Coast, Demerara –  Water levels along the East Coast on Sunday caused serious concerns for residents who are now fearful of flooding in their communities. The water is rising at an alarming level, at some areas overflowing it’s banks. This situation is expected to get worse with reports from the Hydromet office that the rains will continue throughout the week. The Government has deployed several excavators along the vulnerable areas on the East Coast, to clear the waterways of debris and other impediments that may result in clogged outfalls.

Providence, East Bank Demerara– Many turned out on Saturday evening to celebrate with Government functionaries, as the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) celebrated its 60th Anniversary, with a dinner at the Princess International Hotel, Providence.
The evening was filled with reflections on the party’s struggle and sacrifices to obtain independence – one of the many significant developmental achievements under its leadership over the years.
 

Campbellville, Georgetown– Police continue to hunt for armed criminals at various communities across the country following recent armed attacks on citizens. The authorities are on high alert and maintain high presence in areas suspected to be havens for the criminals. One such area is along the East Coast between Paradise and Plaisance. The Patrols spread out on the railway embankment and main road, conducting searches in villages and erecting road blocks. Investigators believe that  young gangs of armed bandits are in operation across the country.

Upper Demerara River – The police conducted a drug eradication operation at Warida, Upper Demerara River on Friday November 19th, 2010. During the operation three fields of cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants, about seven acres in size, with approximately 15,000 plants ranging between 3 feet and 7 feet in height were found along with five nurseries containing about 5,000 seedlings and a quantity of seeds. The plants and seedlings were destroyed while a man was arrested and is in police custody.

Corentyne,Berbice – The government information agency today reported, President Bharrat Jagdeo while speaking with reporters at the Little Rock Hotel in Berbice yesterday disclosed that a technical team comprising Guyanese and Surinamese will meet within two weeks to agree on technical issues that would be key to the soliciting of bids for the bridge across the Corentyne River. Suriname’s President Desi Bouterse returned with President Jagdeo after the latter’s visit to the neighbouring country on Friday.
