President Bharrat Jagdeo is hopeful that some of the initiatives discussed with Kuwait Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al Ahmed Al-Jaber Al Sabah during his visit on Monday would go forward, including funding for a much needed four-lane highway on the East Coast Demerara.
Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud today described the Mangrove Management Action Plan as “timely and low cost” with the spin-off of providing economic benefit to the fishing, leather craft and apiculture industries.

More than fifty workers who are planters at the LBI Sugar estate today stage a protest action at the Estate’s office calling for their regular four days work. Presently at the estate it is out of crop time and the planters would normally get four days work but are only getting one or two days per week now.

Fire fighters from West Ruimveldt Fire station in Georgetown rushed to the West Coast Of Demerara to respond to a call from residents of Canal Number two Polder in the wee hours of the morning.
Around 2 AM today the home of 62 year old Bibi Saqrhami went up in flames and by the time members of the Guyana Fire service reached, the woman had die in the blaze.
Saqrhami was the only person in the house at the time of the fire.
Approximate 120 families at 2nd street Garden of Eden on the East Bank of Demerara are calling on the Public works ministry to monitor the situation about their main road there.
Farmers said that they have to travel a few miles from their homes to the East Bank public road to bring out there produce to send it to the city to find market.
Management of the GPHC Claims that the non-functioning of its mortuary is only a rumor and there is absolutely no truth to it. It must be noted, for the sake of clarification, that over the weekend, it was observed that a motor of the Mortuary’s refrigerator was not working; however, there was no cooling taking place.

Over the weekend workers contracted by the Ministry of Public Works were seen cutting the grass of parapets and removing garbage from sections of the city in the wake of the arrival of the Kawaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al- Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah who will be in Guyana on Monday July 19 2010.
