Power Company fully affected by worker’s strike- NACCIE (union)

Kingston, Georgetown

All sectors of the Guyana Power & Light Inc. were affected by a strike action today on Monday November 22nd, 2010.

This action was due to the power company refusal to discuss an increase in wages/salary for its workers who are represented by the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) and who have sent proposal for negotiations since the first quarter of 2010.
According to the Union’s General Secretary Kenneth Joseph the Union has informed the Management of the GPL of its fullest support for the workers on strike and reminded them of the indication of frustration by the negotiation team during the meetings held to discuss monetary increases.
However a check around the capital city, there were no major power outages.
