Hindus observe Kartik Snaan – worship to mother Ganga

Georgetown – Hundreds of Hindus this morning turn out at the sea wall and other fore shores to worship mother Ganga in observance of Kartik Snaan, which occurs on Purnima (Full moon) in the Hindu month of Kartik (November) . The worship at foreshores and riverbanks is  to cleanse the souls with the purifying waters of Ganga. Prayers and Offerings of prashad (lapsi and puri, bananas, water melon, coconuts, and other fruits) are made, while some engage in pooja and kirtan. The remainder of the day is observed with vrat (fasting) and many attend their Mandirs where special satsanghs are conducted.
