Wire tapping debate in Parliament today

A marathon session of the Lower House is expected in the Parliament today as debate on wire tapping is scheduled to begin. The Interception Bill entitled was laid in Parliament last week Friday following a statement by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar that several public figures were being illegally wire-tapped by an illegal police unit. The bill proposes the National Security Ministry authorise interception of communications rather than the Prime Minister. A special majority is needed for the Bill’s passage.
