Muslims Celebrate Eid Ul Adha across Guyana.

Georgetown, Guyana- The Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) said that  Eid ul Adha signifies one of the greatest acts of sacrifice in the annals of human history. From it we should learn and adapt to it’s values in making personal sacrifices within ourselves, the Organization added.

The CIOG explained that in the present world where there are economic and financial crises, global warming, the rise in poverty levels, increase in the use of alcohol, drugs, widespread violence against women and children and sometimes almost total disregard for basic human rights, it is a time for people to reflect on their own sacrifices and the need to be connected back with the Creator to be guided to attain prosperity and peace within our societies and ourselves.

This day is celebrated with the sacrifice of cows or sheep as a sign of total devotion to the Creator and dates back to the days of Abraham who was tested by God to sacrifice his beloved son Ishmael. It’s a day for sharing with the needy, family and friends as an act of personal gratitude for the life given to one and all by the Creator.
