The Management of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in a press release today stated that it has been grappling with the recent incidences of maternal deaths at the Corporation; for many of which accusations have been leveled against the hospital – citing negligence as the cause of these deaths.
According to the hospital’s public relations office, although medical staff battle tirelessly to preserve the lives of these mothers and their newborns; it must be stated that some deaths are unfortunately unavoidable. In these instances, complications develop wherein there is nothing the best physician or state of the art facility can do to reverse the situation.
As is the norm with all maternal deaths, management indicated that it has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of every patient and action is taken whenever necessary.
Within the last 5 weeks, 4 women died during child birth raising questions about negligence by staff at the hospital.
