Opposition calls for immediate measures to save lives

The People’s National Congress Reform is calling on the Police Traffic Department to institute immediate measures to stop the recklessness on the roadways. At it’s weekly press briefing the Party stated that the Police need to institute an on going education awareness program for all Guyanese, particularly drivers. The requirements for the issuing of Drivers’ license need to be tightened with compulsory retesting for renewals, the party added. The PNCR is alarmed at the traffic statistics. In the period, up to 23rd September 2010, there were 77 accidents with 80 deaths; five were children.
