The spirit of Diwali is in the air, several members of Mandirs around Georgetown were seen putting in the final touches to be part of the country’s largest Diwali Motorcade.
Trucks and cars will be decorated with hundreds of lights and placing Mother Laxmi in the forefront, vying for a top spot at the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabah’s motorcade competition.
Tomorrow Hindus worldwide will be celebrating Diwali or the Sanskrit word Deepavali which means rows of lamps.
Diwali is observed on the 15th dark night of the Hindu month of Kartik which is sometime between the months of October and November in the English Calender. Prayers are done to Mother Laxmi who represents the goddess that eliminates poverty, pride and anger.
