Truck driver remanded to prison after being charged with causing the death of 12 persons

Truck driver, Chetram Moonsammy, was charged on Tuesday  with 12 counts of causing death by dangerous driving, when he appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court. He was not required to plea to the indictable charges. Moonsammy was represented by Attorney at law Mursaleen Bacchus who failed to get bail for his client after the Magistrate denied it. The charge states that on Friday 29th October on number 19 road village public road he drove motor lorry GLL 8863 in a manner dangerous to the public causing the death of 12 persons, and failure to render assistance in the time of and after the accident. Moonsammy was remanded until his next court appearance  
on January 3, 2010.
