"Fast driving takes lives, careful driving saves lives". The theme of Road Safety month which started on Monday. The theme and observance of road safety comes in the wake of several fatal accidents on the roadways over the past 2 weeks, a total of 16 deaths. So far for the year the figure of road deaths stands at 117, 20 more than last year’s figure. Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee today lashed out at road users who disregard people’s lives and said that the recent fatal accidents are a grim reminder of the effect the careless use of the roads have on the lives of people.
Rohee added that the nation cannot continue to allow such a large number of the workforce to be wasted, and that all accidents have some effect on our economy. The Home Affairs Minister urged the nation to support all efforts to stop the mayhem on the roadways and prevent the lost of lives. He made mention of the many homes that are now going through pain, after losing their loved ones, because of the recklessness of a driver.
