Authorities to revise laws against reckless drivers

In the wake of Friday’s horrific smash up on the Corentyne Highway, Traffic officials are now pushing for stricter laws against speeding and more rigorous tests to obtain a valid driver’s license. TrakkerNews was informed on Saturday that the Police have been meeting since the deadly accident that took the lives of 12 and left others in serious injuries, in an effort to setup more traffic patrols along the minibus routes.

Some time ago, the Police Commissioner called on drivers to exercise caution when using the road, and avoid speeding. He said that most of the accidents involved young inexperienced drivers, even questioning by what means they obtained their license. According to reports, certain procedures regarding the acquisition of a valid driver’s license will be revised, and the push will be on for the law to change in an effort to stop the lawlessness on the roadways. TrakkerNews was reliably informed that the Home Affairs Minister may be raising the issue on stricter penalties and licensing procedures at Tuesday’s Cabinet sitting.
