Police this evening in their investigation into one of the deadliest accidents in the ancient county of Berbice, are confirming a blown out truck tire which caused the deaths of 12 persons. The investigators however are not ruling out eyewitnesses account that both vehicles were speeding.
The truck driver who was heading to New Amsterdam, lost control of the vehicle after the blow out which was compounded by the wet road caused by mid morning showers. Relatives of the dead reportedly rushed to the scene frantically trying to identify their loved ones, some of whom collapsed at the horrific scene. The injured were rushed to the hospital, some suffering from serious injuries. This evening the driver of the truck known as ‘Babulal’ is still on the run.
