National feeding programme showing success – Minister Baksh

Education Minister Shaik Baksh today says the National Schools Feeding Programme that was launched in January has shown progress throughout the country, notwithstanding some unfair distributions that were quickly addressed by the Ministry.

The Ministry of Education rolled out an $800M National School Feeding Programme that is expected to benefit over 51,000 nursery and primary students in coastal and riverain communities.

The aim of the programme was to have more children attending school even those who were unable because of certain basic needs.

Meanwhile the minister is calling on Mathematics and English A teachers to give back at least two hours per week after the regular school hours to have the school curriculum completed. The Minister pointed to the fact that most of those teachers leave their work between 9 am and 3 pm to attend the University of Guyana.
