Speaker of the house and senior counsel Ralph Ramkarran, says he is totally different than other politicians of today, with unique ideas and the ability to make meaningful change to the governance of the country. In an interview Wednesday, the senior counsel explained that one priority will be to eradicate extreme poverty from society which is the root cause of many problems, including corruption and crime. Serving as the Speaker of the House for nine years, Ramkarran believes in the involvement of all stakeholders in decision making in the interest of nation building. He will run with the likes of party General Secretary Donald Ramotar and Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee.
The ruling party will use it’s age old nomination procedure for the post of Presidential Candidate. The procedure allows for the nomination/expression of interest by interested individuals, deliberations at the level of the Executive Committee, and subsequent approval by the Central Committee. “The approved candidate will then be announced to the membership through regional conferences.
The selection document outlines a code of conduct which potential presidential candidates and their supporters must adhere to before and after the selection of the agreed presidential candidate.
