Region two, Essequibo – Teachers at Region Two, Essequibo are calling on the Minister of Education to get involve and investigate why they are not being paid for remediation classes that were held during the August Holidays. The frustrated teachers told TrakkerNews that two months have passed since they were promised to be paid on August 20th 2010. The teachers said they sacrificed their summer vacation to meet with the Ministry’s work.They were told that by the Assistant chief education officer responsible for secondary schools, Miss Bovell that they will be paid for their work.This news agency contacted Ms Bovell’s office and was told by her secretary Ms. Issacs that the education officer is on annual leave. She however explained that the necessary paper work for the teacher’s payments were completed and sent to the accounts department.It is not clear if that department forwarded the documents to the finance Ministry to release the money.
