Cruel cops may walk free as tortured teen fails to turn up in court

The police ranks charged with burning the genitals of a teenager during October last year, may walk free, without the testimony of the victim. The youngster Twyon Thomas failed to turn up in court even after a wanted bulletin was issued for him.  Attorney at law Kkemraj Ramjattan, representing the lad told TrakkerNews today that the testimony  by the victim and two other eyewitnesses is essential to convict the officers since an injustice will be done to the state,(herein referred to as the people) should the officers go free. He said that there is no other recourse, except to move ahead with the constitutional motion which does not require the presence of the victim. As far as the criminal trial is concerned, the matter will be dismissed, once the defense lawyer Hukumchand argue that the eyewitnesses are a no show, and in the lack of evidence in the matter, there can be no other option. Ramjattan case in seeking justice was a conviction of the officers responsible and compensation for the victim. Sergeant Narine Lall and Mohanram Dolai were both charged in the matter. The lad was tortured at the La Grange Police Station in the presence of two other eyewitnesses.

He said that the Police should now seek the whereabouts of the youngster and his family arrest them and bring them to court to testify. The attorney says it is quite unfortunate that he is unable to reach his client, and believes that the family may have paid off to keep quite.
