TrakkerNews on Sunday last carried a story about the deterioration of the railway embankment road at the koker separating Paradise and Foulis. The state of the crater which caved in almost 7 feet, needed immediate repairs to avoid the impending danger to commuters. As was expected, since Sunday nothing was done and the shoulder of the road collapsed almost 10 feet below. Luckily no one was injured. The pictures clearly show the depth of the holes and the standard of work that was carried out by an overseas contracting firm stationed on the East Coast, just 5 minutes away from the collapsed road. As the area continue to deteriorate drivers are using alternative routes. For those commuters who are not frequent users of this particular stretch of road, it can be very dangerous since there are no real warning signs except for a tire in the middle of the road, which is not too visible at night. TrakkerNews spoke to a truck driver Wednesday, who explained that Guysuco trucks loaded with sugar , tractors and other heavy duty vehicles often ply the area. He expressed concern that with daily pressure a disaster can occur. Perhaps this is what the Ministry of Works is waiting for before they act, he surmised. The impending danger is quite a serious concern for many drivers who are calling on the authorities to fix the road immediately, before lives are lost.
