More than 30 machinery workers attached to Wales Sugar Estate this morning stage a strike action in front of the Estate. The workers said they are being fooled by Guysuco’s management or by the union representing them GAWU.
They claimed that they were told by the Factory Manager Devendra Kumar that they will be paid now by job worked instead of time worked; however the workers said they asked for the change to be in a contract that they will sign but were ignored. The matter was raised with the union representative Seepaul Narine and again no action was taken.
The workers said they feel they are not being properly represented and is also calling for a change of the union.
TrakkerNews spoke with the field secretary at the estate Mr. Talak Khan who explained that this matter of the written agreement was raised with Guysuco’s management and the Chief Labour Officer who will make a ruling in a week’s time.
