Man killed, father hospitalized over land dispute

Georgetown: A land dispute resulted in the turned fatal at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara on Sunday when a drunken father and his son clashed with an alleged trespasser on their farming property.

Dead is 31 year-old Harrynarine Ramnawaj of 25 Estate Road, Cane Grove, his father, Rudolph Chanderpaul  Ramnawaj had two fingers severed during the incident.

Police said they are investigating an alleged Murder committed on Harrinarine Ramawaj, a driver, of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara which occurred about 13:00hrs.

Initial investigation revealed that the deceased and his father went to their cash crop farm which is in operation for over forty-years, saw their banana plants damaged and a wooden structure erected. The suspect who was in the wooden structure at the time and the senior Ramnawaj got into an argument during which he (suspect) dealt the deceased and his father several chops about their bodies. 

The man and his father were rushed to a City Hospital during which he was pronounced dead on arrival, the father Chanderpaul Ramawaj, 59, of Cane Grove Estate, ECD was admitted in a  serious condition at the said hospital.  The body is at the Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.

 The suspect, a 43 year old labourer of Sawah, Cane Grove, ECD who was injured during the confrontation was treated at the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, sent away and is in police custody.
