Former airline bag handler charged with drug trafficking

Georgetown: A man wanted by the authorities in connection with cocaine trafficking in 2016 was Tuesday remanded to prison after being recently nabbed by police.

Kennard De Jong, 34, stood before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan to answer to the charge of cocaine possession while aboard a Dynamic Airways flight destined for New York.

The drugs were discovered on board the flight when a colleague observed a small package hidden in the cargo of the plane.

The charge stated that between February 1-2, 2016 at Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) he had in his possession 1.3 kilos of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The case will continue on October 19.

A wanted bulletin was issued for De Jonge in February. He was a former bag handler attached to a local airline.
