Top cop seeks closure in Tobago murders

Keils

Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams visited Tobago today and said he would leave no stone unturned in seeking out the perpetrator/s in the murdering of Hubertus Keil, 74, and his wife Birgid, 71, at Ministers Bay, Bacolet, last Saturday.

A reward of One Hundred Thousand Dollars has been offered by crime stoppers to anyone with information in connection with the double murder. Mr. Williams said that top notch investigators have been put on the case, including the criminal guard and intelligence unit and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, he said this matter is being treated with the highest priority.

A post postmortem performed on the bodies today by pathologist Herbert De Vignes reported that the couple died as a result of chop wounds to the back of their heads almost to the point of decapitation, Mr. Keil also suffered a defense wound to his left hand.

Meanwhile, the double murder could put a damper on the tourism sector. Tourism Minister Gerald Hadeed said meetings are scheduled with the Tobago House of Assembly to restore the islands’ image. THA secretary Orville London once again expressed condolences to the victims’ relatives and said he received no word from the late Keils’ daughter and maybe she is too traumatized at the moment, however, London said he has been in contact with the German Embassy, and he wants to maintain the long , mutually, beneficially working relationship with the German Government in that he is readily available to lend his support.

But an English couple Peter and Mariam Green who were disfigured in a machete attack back in 2009 is skeptical that anything would be done to apprehend the perpetrators of the Keils’ murders, because they, themselves were offered the same promises and they got not recourse. According to media reports Mr. Green said all Mr.London is doing is copying and pasting and they would be suing the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for what he calls “substantial compensation”. The Greens would be seeking One million pounds each. The Greens’ lawyers is asking Prime Minister Kamla Persd-Bissessar if she would consider paying the Greens’ compensation seeing a considerable amount of time has passed.

Mr.Green said it is time for Tobago to get serious and protect its’ tourists.
